Company
Southwest Millworks, Inc. (SWMI) was originally known as Southwest Construction & Millwork (SWCM), which began operations in 1987 as both a commercial tenant improvement general contractor and finish carpentry subcontractor.
We consider our company a service oriented company with a very good reputation and a very satisfied client list. As a result, we often enjoy the benefit of special consideration on the projects we negotiate or bid.
We also enjoy the enviable position of working for specific clients of our choice. During the 1980’s, SWCM did quite a few projects as a general contractor, however, by the early 1990’s the competition became fierce for general contractors within the San Diego area and SWCM elected to expand more into casework fabrication.
We continued our marketing efforts in the direction of commercial cabinetry fabrication and installation, but also continued to perform occasional general contracting projects for previous clients or clients who were referred to us by past customers.
During the 1990’s, we continued to develop our casework clientele and specialized in hotel and restaurant construction. By the late 1990’s we began concentrating more in the medical field, specializing in pharmaceutical and other laboratory research facilities.
It was in 1990 we changed our name to Southwest Millworks, Inc., but we did retain the name of our original company, Southwest Construction & Millwork, primarily to continue servicing our clients who wish us to perform their general contracting needs. Southwest Millworks, Inc. will continue to be our primary or parent company and continue specializing in the bio-medical and pharmaceutical industries manufacturing custom casework for our clients.
We have performed work from Hawaii to Minnesota and will continue to service our clients wherever they may be located. The bio-medical and pharmaceutical industry is growing dramatically throughout the United States and we want to be a significant part of this growth.

Chris Hogan - President
Mr. Hogan started San Diego County Builders and Roofers in 1977. The company was involved in both commercial and residential remodeling projects. The company serviced several real estate companies’ needs, such as upgrading properties for new tenants, repair of properties and upgrading properties for sales purposes.
In 1980 Mr. Hogan went to work for M.H. Golden Company as a superintendent, assigned to the construction of the USD campus housing project in San Diego. At the time, M.H. Golden was considered the largest commercial construction company in San Diego County. Mr. Hogan was later promoted to assistant project manager of the second co-generation plant facility in San Diego. This was a $22,000,000 project. He was partly responsible for finishing this project three months earlier than originally scheduled and nearly four million dollars under budget.
In 1983, he accepted a position with a company called TCI as vice president. He left TCI to start another company in 1987, known as Southwest Construction & Millwork. Southwest Construction & Millwork did both general contracting and finish carpentry, primarily for commercial entities, such as Souplantation Restaurants and nine Rubios Restaurants, as a well as an assortment of other clients. In 1989, Mr. Hogan took on two partners for a period of nearly four years, but then returned to sole ownership in 1993.
He formed a corporation in 2000 and adopted the corporate name of Southwest Millworks, Inc., dropping the word “Construction” from the company name. However, Southwest Construction & Millworks is still a viable company and will continue to service the general contracting needs of retail store tenant improvement clients. Intend on re-activating the name Southwest Construction & Millworks for the purpose of using this company specifically as a general contracting firm specializing in retail store tenant improvement construction. Southwest Millworks, Inc. will continue to develop our bio-medical clientele and servicing those clients casework needs.
